5 RAGS TO
RICHES TIPS
1.
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOURSELF. Stop your crying. Stop pointing
fingers also. If you are not successful, look in the mirror. All successful
people are accountable for themselves. The wealthy dont wait for
anyone to make money. They make things happen. Poor people are reactive
not proactive. Every action or inaction has consequences. Procrastination
has consequences. Get off your ass and start focusing on creating a great
life. I dont want to hear that you will do it mañana.
2.
PAY YOURSELF THE FIRST 10% OF WHAT YOU EARN. You heard me. This is
the most basic wealth principle of them all. You will always have bills,
trust me. If you do this one thing alone, you will thank Dr. Dinero years
from know from saving your ass from poverty. Take the money and build
your emergency reserve first. Start in a savings account, and then move
the money to a money market fund.
3.
MAXIMIZE YOUR RETIREMENT PLAN AT WORK (OR IRA IF YOU DONT HAVE A
PLAN). This is the second most basic wealth principle. Have your employer
take the money from your paycheck automatically. Take the money and invest
it in equity mutual funds if you have more than five years before retirement.
Start with an S&P 500 index fund. An S&P Index Fund will usually
outperform most equity mutual funds in the long term.
4.
BUY A HOME. The sage George Lopez once said, Do you know why
you never see Latinos homeless? Because they never leave home! Invest
in your own home. Find yourself a good loan representative and a good
real estate agent. Dont just hire your compadre who started in real
estate last Sunday. Work with experienced professionals. Name a rich person
who doesnt own their own home?
5.
INVEST IN YOURSELF TO BE THE BEST THAT YOU CAN BE. Yeah, I know it
sounds like a military commercial. The most successful clients I have
never think twice about investing in themselves. Most poor people I talk
to think of spending money on themselves as an expense, not an investment.
Take a few bucks and buy books that will change your life. Here are a
couple of classic financial books that I highly recommend, Think and
Grow Rich by Napolean Hill, and The Richest Man in Babylon
by George S. Clason. Also, dont forget about my book, The Latino
Journey to Financial Greatness. It was written to motivate you to
take action and give you a plan for a great life with lots of money!
